The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has announced significant changes for the SSC CHSL 2026 examination. These updates impact the selection process, exam strategy, application procedure, eligibility criteria, and even the selection of exam centers. Candidates planning to apply for the 2,536 tentative vacancies must thoroughly review these changes before registration to avoid any errors.
One of the most notable changes is the introduction of sectional timing for both Tier 1 and Tier 2 exams. In Tier 1, each section (English Language, General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness) will now have a strict 15-minute time limit. Previously, candidates could manage the total 60 minutes across all sections as they wished. Similarly, Tier 2 will have separate timings for each module based on their marks weightage, replacing the previous collective time.
Additionally, the answer key challenge fee has been reduced from ₹100 to ₹50 per question, making it more affordable for aspirants to raise objections. The application correction window has also been extended to 3 days (October 14-16), providing more time to rectify mistakes, though the fee structure for corrections remains the same. Aspirants should also note that Aadhaar authentication is now optional, and all three examination center preferences must be from the same SSC region. Furthermore, Hindi Typing Test has been made mandatory. These changes require a revised preparation strategy and careful attention during the application process.
