NTA Takes Action on Telegram for NEET (UG) 2026 Re-Examination
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced significant measures against the Telegram platform in India to ensure the integrity of the upcoming NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination. These actions, taken on the recommendations of NTA and in coordination with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), aim to curb fraudulent activities and prevent paper leaks.
Specifically, NTA has directed a temporary restriction on access to the Telegram platform in India. This restriction will be in effect until June 22, 2026, covering the day of the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination scheduled for June 21, 2026, and its immediate aftermath. Additionally, Telegram has been instructed to disable its message-editing feature in India for messages already posted, with this measure ending on June 30, 2026. This is to prevent the fabrication of post-event 'paper leak' evidence, a tactic used by cheating rackets.
NTA expressed gratitude to MeitY and the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) for their continuous support. I4C, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, has been instrumental in coordinating the operational response to Telegram-based fraud, leading to the prompt take-down of numerous fraudulent channels, groups, and bots. This coordinated effort, involving inputs from NTA and state law-enforcement agencies including Bihar, Gujarat, and Rajasthan police forces, has been crucial in containing the harm caused by these rackets. Students appearing for the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination should be aware of these measures and rely only on official communication channels for information.
